Milford, Pa.- Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin announced the sentence of a Bushkill man for a conviction by a Pike County jury for as series of crimes of abuse of a child over several years. Timothy Paul Lawrence Jones, age 48, of Bushkill, Pennsylvania, had been previously convicted of 15 separate criminal charges, which included two counts of Felony strangulation of a household member, Felony false imprisonment, Felony intimidation in a child abuse case, endangering the welfare of a children, two counts of terroristic threats, two counts of possession of instruments of crime, and six counts of simple assault. Pike County President Judge Gregory H. Chelak sentenced Jones to a total sentence of 157 months up to 332 months in a state correctional facility along with a fine of $4,300.00.
These incidents presented to the jury at trial ranged from two separate incidents of strangulation of the minor where the child was lifted off the ground by his neck, to tying the minor up with zip ties, then using pliers to twist the fingers of the minor, along with numerous instances of assault. When authorities began to investigate the abuse, Jones threatened the minor not to tell child abuse investigators the truth about the abuse otherwise his younger siblings would grow up in foster care and the minor victim would be sent back to his biological mother where he had been sexually abused previously. The assaults by Jones occurred over the period of time from 2019 to 2022, including one incident where Jones punched the victim in the face and knocked the victim unconscious. When the victim disclosed the fact that the defendant was having an affair, the defendant threatened to break his jaw so that he couldn’t speak.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alec Colquhoun who commented after the sentencing: “One of the most important responsibilities that a father can have to his children is to protect them from harm. In this case, the defendant was the person who the victim came to fear the most as he suffered horrific child abuse at the hands of the person who should have used those hands to protect him. I applaud the victim’s tremendous courage and character to stand up for what is right and to speak the truth despite all of the threats and abuse from the defendant to silence him.”
The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections will determine what prison Jones serves his sentence in.
